Indigenous Reconciliation - Vision Statement
SOUTH EAST SUNS AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL CLUB RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN
The South East Suns Australian Football Club supports the principles of reconciliation and is committed to working towards it. We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and pay our respects to the Elders past, present and future for they hold the memories, traditions, culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia.

The South East Suns Australian Football Club’s vision for reconciliation is to commit to professional development, cultural awareness and social inclusion by developing a network with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations. This will align with the national agenda in an event to contribute to closing the gap in life expectancy, health, education and employment opportunities between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians.
The actions in our plans is to develop existing relationships and partnerships with local traditional Elders (Yugambeh People) and develop an awareness to all members of the South East Suns Australian Football Club by completing a workshop known as Hidden Histories. This will provide all members with the opportunity to breakdown the myths associated with Indigenous issues and develop an awareness and sensitivity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. This is aligned with the national agenda of everybody’s business and following cultural protocol which is aligned with the Australian Football League (AFL).
This Reconciliation Action Plan is at an early stage of development and the plan is to continually develop the Reconciliation Action Plan. In an Indigenous concept this Reconciliation Action Plan is at a seedling level and will continue to grow with on-going support from all stakeholders involved with the South East Suns Australian Football Club. Through the South East Suns Australian Football Club’s actions, plans, processes and communication that creates an understanding and awareness of the cultural diversity within the football club and is reflected and represented in a manner that honours and respects the partnerships and relationships formed throughout the journey. This is aligned with cultural sensitivity protocol and the South East Suns Australian Football Club’s code of conduct and the Australian Football Leagues racial vilification policy.
